One Thing A Day In May – day 19 – i’m GARdening

This summer, I’ll be gardening with my friend The B. who has a plot in one of the community gardens, here in Verdun. Today was my first day — the last time I had a garden was the year my youngest son was born, in 1979. 35 years. wow.

You can’t actually SEE any of my work but I got to plant “Crimson Flowered (1778)” Fava Broad Beans, aka vicia faba – coccineus; “Parade” onions, aka Alium Fistulosum; Sweet yellow Cipolinni onions, aka unknown; and last but not least, a variety of carrots, aka daucus carota.

All organic seeds.

Here you have The Stone.

And this is me — my shadow — photographing the first row of carrots. Because from now on, I’ll be the garden paparazzo, giving you updates as to the evolution of this new “thing.”

Gardening is spiritual, so the best is yet to come!

Laguz – my Rune for 2013

Posted in rituals, spirituality

New Year’s Eve has come and gone,
and I skipped my ritual: picking a Rune.

Hey… what can I say… I haven’t been my usual self, lately.
(does this mean I’m my unusual self? what is that?!!)

But better late than never, so here goes:

That Which Conducts

Unseen powers are active here, powers that nourish, shape and connect. The attributes of this Rune are water, fluidity, the ebb and flow of emotions, of vocations and relationships. Laguz fulfills your desire to immerse yourself in the experience of living without having to evaluate or understand. It speaks to the satisfaction of emotional needs, to the awakening of the intuitive or lunar side of your nature. For while the sun strives for differentiation, the moon draws us toward union and merging.

This Rune often signals a time for cleansing: for revaluing, reorganizing, realigning. A Rune of deep knowing, Laguz may call for you to study spiritual matters in readiness for self-transformation. Success now lies in contacting your intuitive knowing, in attuning to your own rhythms. A Rune of the self relating rightly to the Self, Laguz signifies what alchemists called the conjunctio, or sacred marriage. In fairy tales, it is the end where the hero and heroine live happily ever after.

Very nice.

To live happily ever after…
I’ll drink to that!

Laguz was brought to you by The Book of Runes
and its author, Ralph Blum.

After being a fan of Blum’s Runes since January 1991, I was absolutely thrilled to find this video on YouTube, tonight. What a handsome and charming man!

it hurts so it must be good

This is what my tiny flat looks like and will continue to look like till I get myself a gym membership. That’s my yoga mat on the left and I figure what’s the use of unrolling it and rolling it again three times a day when I can just leave it there, ready for action.

Two days into the challenge, I’m already reaping the rewards: pain in my shoulders, pain in my calves. My calves are the worse — maybe I should have started with 10 minutes on the rebounder instead of 20. But it sure is fun!

Mornings are what I’m most proud of. The strict NO INTERNET rule is something I needed in order to stop going to my emails and Facebook as soon as I woke up. Now, with the stretching and the conscious breathing and the meditation, my mornings don’t seem so insane. I’ve started to reconnect with my body and my soul — YES!

No internet is harder to handle in the afternoon. When lunch comes around, I miss it. So as of week 2, I’ll drop the ban — the goal was to stop going online as soon as I woke up and to spend my mornings away from it.

Meditation: Yesterday, I went for 10 minutes. Today, I went for 15. I like it. I should be able to hit my 20-minute goal by the end of week 1… or even before.

I won’t be reporting every day, the idea was to do it every monday. But I’ll post now and then just so you know how things are going.
